Who do we support?

Vedicology Foundation supports girls and young women across Tamil Nadu and Kerala who have lost a parent’s financial support — because a parent has passed away, has left the family, or can no longer provide. There are seven situations we support, shown below. If your life looks like one of them, there is a good chance we can stand with you in your education. We also support destitute women — widowed, abandoned, or separated — with vocational training to build a livelihood. What matters is your circumstances, never your background, your religion, or your community.

Before you read

Read through the seven situations below and find the one closest to your life. You do not need a perfect match or every document in hand — if your situation is close, please reach out.

Important

Vedicology Foundation never charges any application fee, processing fee, registration fee, or documentation fee. Our support is completely free. If anyone asks you for money claiming to represent us, please report it immediately:

You have lost both parents

Both your parents have passed away. You are a full orphan, and you carry the most — so the marks bar for our Merit Scholarship is gentler for you than for anyone else.

You have lost the support of both parents

Your mother has passed away or is absent from your life, and your father falls under one of the situation-4 reasons below. With neither parent able to support you, you belong here.

Grew up in a children’s home?

If you grew up in a children’s home with no family at all — rather than with grandparents or relatives — there is a fuller, separate scholarship made for you, with a gentler marks bar and your whole education funded. See the Care Leaver Scholarship.

Your father left the family

Your father walked away — no contact, no support. You do not need a death certificate, and you do not need to prove anything formal about his leaving. If he is gone and not supporting you, this is your situation.

You are a widowed, abandoned, or separated woman

Who qualifies?

If one of the seven situations above sounds like your life, you can apply. Eligibility is about your circumstances, not your marks alone — and a student slightly below a marks bar is still encouraged to apply and explain her situation. You can see every marks figure on our Marks Eligibility page.

The Foundation supports young women aged 18 and above; we do not fund minors. If you are younger than 18, you are still welcome to reach out so we can guide you on when and how to apply.

What if my mother has passed away but my father is alive?

We want to be honest with you about this one. If your mother has passed away but your father is alive and able to support you, that situation on its own does not qualify you. But if your father is non-functional for any of the situation-4 reasons — disability, critical illness, severe mental illness, addiction, or imprisonment — then you belong under situation 5. If you are unsure, please reach out and we will talk it through with you.

Not sure?

Not sure where you fit?

That is completely okay — many people are not sure at first, and the situations can overlap. We are here to help you understand where you belong. Reach out — it costs nothing to ask.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What if my father abandoned us but I don’t have a desertion certificate?+
You do not need one. For situation 3, there is no formal document required to prove your father left. If he has gone and is not supporting you, you can apply — just tell us your situation honestly and we will guide you. See how to begin on the How to Apply page.
What if I’m from a strict-marking university and my marks are slightly below the threshold?+
Please apply anyway and explain your situation. Our Scholarship Committee reviews each case with understanding, not just numbers. You can see all the marks on our Marks Eligibility page.
What if I don’t have all the documents listed in your guide?+
Missing documents are never a reason not to apply. If you are not sure how to get a document, our team will walk you through it step by step. Please don’t let paperwork stop you from reaching out.
Can destitute women apply for scholarships, or only vocational training?+
Destitute women — widowed, abandoned, or separated — are supported through vocational training to build a livelihood, not through scholarships. If this is your situation, see the Destitute Women page.
What if my mother has passed away but my father is alive?+
If your father is alive and able to support you, that situation alone does not qualify you. But if he is non-functional for a situation-4 reason — disability, critical illness, severe mental illness, addiction, or imprisonment — you belong under situation 5. When in doubt, just ask us.
I lost both my parents and grew up in a children’s home. Which support is mine?+
The Care Leaver Scholarship. It is for a girl who was raised in a registered children’s home and is leaving with no family to return to — no grandparents, relatives, or guardians behind her. The marks bar is gentler than the Merit Scholarship, and the Foundation funds her whole education. If you have family you live with instead, you are a full orphan under situation 1, on the Merit Scholarship path. Not sure which fits you? Just ask — see the Care Leaver Scholarship page.
